Why are Scene Haircuts and hairstyles so popular in 2008?

Scene hair is all about how individuals actually carry the look off, rather than any actual hairstyle or haircut. There are of course certain characteristics of Scene hair, dark hair with light, a spiky back and short sides are normally. A fringe can be either short or have long bangs that seek it hang down over one eye.

Scene hair is very reminiscent of the 1980’s music scene, and is epitomised by the use of bright highlights which may be even neon colored. It is unlikely that any one Scene hair style is going to stay with one person, and is often seen as an evolving process. The Scene hair is also high maintenance so could make a long time in order to get ready to go out.

Well, I don’t think you can put an answer on this question. It’s like asking why women wore big gown’s in the 1800’s. It’s just the “scene” for 2008. Every time zone had a particular fashion statement that has been a trademark for them. I just think this is ours.

i just got my hair cut basically my version of a scene cut… a tiny bit longer layers and i’m keeping my hair color dark blonde until after i get my confirmation… then i’m dying the bottom layer turquoise :)
i’m really happy with the way my hair looks right now and i can’t wait till i dye it. i like not following the trend exactly; it makes me feel that much more unique :)

  7. kelsey on May 18th, 2008 at 3:38 am

every time period has it’s own style. it just took one person to cut their hair and dress a certain way, and people liked it, and scene became the style for this time period.

  8. vanessa & wallis on May 20th, 2008 at 7:52 am

Because scene is being more of a well known style XD + its kwl :P

  9. andrea on May 20th, 2008 at 2:48 pm

dressing scene is awesome, it’s the new emo. soon enough (hopefully) the emos will die out and the “trend” will no longer be. that’s the thing with trends, they die out, and once the emos are gone, the punks and goths will be there. cuz we all know that emo branched out from punk and goth. scene is doing the same thing with emo. scene kids just decided to wear the colorful stuff they sell at hot topic. that’s all. and i’m not trying to be mean. scene isn’t that huge, i like the way they dress and i do my hair all poofy too. and if i had to choose which one i’d prefer, i would say scene. those kids don’t go around cutting themselves and stuff. they look happier and i think that’s what draws us in to their style. and i apologize for writing so much. not doing anything in calculus.

  16. Angella on May 26th, 2008 at 1:37 pm

Well you guys, I was once a scene kid, like a full out scene kid. I wore the red, purple, every colour type jeans, the exotic makeup, teased my hair to the max, and it was pink yellow and black. I love being scene and dressing to my personality, now I’m with a preppy boy, he didn’t change me but I have indeed changed. I am still scene at heart and when I’m out but now I sit aroung and chill in a regular hoodie and jeans.

  17. ellexexecution on May 27th, 2008 at 1:50 am

scene kids really aren’t very popular.
preps are the ones who’ve basically taken over the freaking world.
haha but yeah, i love these pictures, but they really aren’t all that great.
you should have nice ones that aren’t so blurry.
    thanxx :D <33

  18. hannah misfit on May 27th, 2008 at 5:18 am

to the girl who says shes very scene

the only rule you MUST follow to be scene is not to EVER under ANY cercumstance say your scene. its just not done. it should be obvious if your scene. if it isnt then your going wrong somewhere.

  19. kelly on May 28th, 2008 at 4:34 am

scene hair defines youths’ individuality. no scene cut is the same, & no scene cut can be duplicated just so. but it’s more than freedom of expression & choice, it’s total lack of boundaries. scene hair defies the proper laws.<3

  20. {schyler} on May 28th, 2008 at 9:22 pm

    ok; scene hair is AMAZING.
but i am tired of people asking those stupid questions..
besides, i dont think “scene” is the style for 2008
not that many people are scene,,right?
at least not where i live..

    ..mostly wangsters….

but this weekend im getting two blue coontails underneath all my layers. i just felt like sharing that with you because im SO EXCITED!!
    ahhh!

  21. AshleyXXX on May 28th, 2008 at 9:51 pm

Scene hair is the shit. I fucking love extensions and bright colors. But yea, unfortunately when your my age retarded people do associate it with emo and talk about cutting purposely in front of you….when the truth is…scene people are pretty much the most confident people ever (if not other times obnoxiously so like kiki kannibal)

  22. nikki on May 30th, 2008 at 6:22 pm

bcuz emo haircuts r awsomeness! + they look dropdead hott!

  24. emo girl on June 2nd, 2008 at 12:58 am

why dont you people put emo hair styles on there for people to look at because its the new look for people who are trying to be emo-ish but thats ok “your welcome to the group” and emos kick ass so dont say shit about us

  25. chelsea_thisisnoise on June 2nd, 2008 at 10:07 pm

“oh im gna go gt my hair cut ’scene’ jst cos evry1 else has!”
which is basically what your saying.

you picked the most ugly “scene” hair cut pictures i’ve ever scene (haha)

  29. Kayla on June 9th, 2008 at 1:13 am

Does anyone understand how these people are unique if they are all basicly the same? Or why people want to be stereptyped? It annoys the crap out of me when people say that I’m goth/emo/scene or whatever. Its all stupid, and maybe you should learn to not copy other people.

  30. pacman mrs paCman on June 9th, 2008 at 3:10 am

hey dood im looking for a hair cut its long in the front but short on the sides i cant find it wherfe should i look

  31. ariel (normal) on June 12th, 2008 at 3:20 pm

i just dont even know where to start. i searched scene because i kno a girl who just got her hair cut all “scene”and what not and i wanted to see if theres actually other people that look that fucking stupid. i just cant believe people think this makes them an individual. changing urself to look like everyone else is the complete opposite of individual. yea i kno a lot of u do it because u deeply love it but others just do it cuz they want fucking attention. and to whoever commented on here saying “o yea i cut myself but im not emo!” cutting urself is cutting urself no matter what stupid fukcing stereotype u r. and if u cut urself and go around telling everyone then ur only reason is that u want attention. maybe if u were a real good person with ur own personality u wudnt need to hurt urself for attention. and to those who say stop hating on emos or im not emo im SCENE! SCENE I TELL U!! theyre the fucking same thing. if u compared the ipods of a “scene” and an “emo” theyd have all the same stuff. the same fucking whiny bands who scream about how terrible their lives are because they were dumped or they cut themselves too deep. just think about how lucky u r that u have the money for all these $50 jeans and thousands of $20 band tshirts and $15 bottles of hair spray. if u have the money for all that u obviously dont have a good enuf reason to cut urself. and for the people that really do have fucked up lives, why do u even put all the time and money into making urself look like this if ur so fucking depressed? this whole thing is so fucking trendy that if one “scene” kid started shaving their head and walking around naked i bet everyone would do it too. and their reasoning would be “oh but its so cool! its the new “style” of 2008! even though everyone else is doing it, im still an individual!”

Ok, I love scene! I think the hairstyles and clothes are awsome. one of my friends got their hair cut all sceneish, and I am here soon. I don’t think i’ll go farther than that, cause i am already labeld so yeah, only as an emo. I plan to just branch off, with my own style like always. YOU ALL ARE AWSOME FOR JUST BEING YOU. and you shouldn’t change just cause it is the next big thing.

  38. stephanie. on June 23rd, 2008 at 11:39 pm

okay, i never liked scene from the start. it is so fucking retarded and you guys look so stupid with nasty looking choppy hair. you “scene” kids look all the SAME. be DIFFERENT.
    scene has absolutely no originality,
i mean look at the cool statements from the past, the 60’s, the 80’s, even the fucking 40’s.
you kids are corrupting the trends now the future trends are SHIT.
fucking wear some flares or something.

  41. haley damage on June 30th, 2008 at 3:30 pm

    i agree with hannah misfit.

    anyways!!!!!
getting “scene” hair is much more fun if you do it yourself. plus you can pretty much get whatever you want then, without having your stylist do what he/she wants on your head.
i have fuschia and black stiped bangs and the rest is blonde and pink that i spike up.

some say i would fit this category, but i just wear what i like. which is usually bright colored and peculiar.

and why do we always have to fight the other people. emos and preps and punks and goths ect…. nobody really cares anymore.

  42. prada girl on June 30th, 2008 at 6:38 pm

Well, i do not mean to offend, but i think it looks rather bad, i get the whole artisitic expression and all but i have seen a lot of pretty girls look hanus after their “scene” haircut transformation. For me beauty is issue #1 when it comes to hair, and it is not beautiful.

Basically i can appreciate the expression but the results are quite lacking in the beauty department.

  43. sdfsda on July 2nd, 2008 at 1:33 am

I love the way the hair cut looks but i dont wanna do it and people call me a poser and shit soo i dnt do it but i reallly really like it <3

  44. scarlet cyanide on July 2nd, 2008 at 3:48 pm

love the pics above. those girls && guys are scene for a reason; at least they have the confidence to post pics of themselves. they’re not afraid. and for the ones who bash scene, get a life. quit judging. scene is a unique style and confidence is SO important to have.

why make fun of the scene kids? what about all those other kids who wear HOLLISTER and Æ plastered to their chests? just saying…no individuality there when the store does it for you.

p.s. don’t complain about this site not having “emo” pics, didn’t you read the site url? “SCENE-STYLE.INFO/” shouldn’t be anymore clear than that.

  46. Vinni on July 3rd, 2008 at 3:38 am

I am hoping to get scene hair soon…slowly getting the hang of it. It’s hard to figure out what to do with your hair, when trying to make it scene hair when you have curly hair…i straighten the ends and random pieces of my hair and then i have my choppy straight sidebangs.which i put a bow in.
Now all i need are extensions and or dye underneath my hair beach blonde and the ends of my sidebangs the same color…plus im gunna dye a random streak turquoise!(btw im a brunette)
**just thought I’d share that with you and see any opinions…tell me what yuh think! =]

  47. Zoe Zealous on July 3rd, 2008 at 2:14 pm

hahahah emos suck balls; they whine too much and they creep me out with their self-inflicted cuts >.> scene is a more bright and colorful version of emo. If I were to be labeled, I would probably end up being labeled scene. But I’m not scene, I’m just me. Sure, I have the skinny jeans, the makeup, the shirts, the hair and the music, but does that really make me scene??

  48. rebecca.riot! on July 3rd, 2008 at 8:45 pm

i just wanted to say that,
scene hair is amazing. period. better than any other hairstyle you will see.
also, it doesn’t really matter if you’re a prep or if you’re “scene”, almost any girl likes an emo/scene boy. (tight jeans, band tees, black amazing hair, etc.) so boys, this is the way to go.

  49. morganHEY! on July 6th, 2008 at 4:44 am

    firstly,
if you have to tell people that you’re scene to reassure yourself,
or if you say those words aloud period,
    YOU ARE NOT SCENE.

    secondly,
    cutters are not emo.
you’re not placed into a group because of any one action.
people who cut do so for either of two reasons:
either they want to look cool and get attention,
or they have a serious mental condition, in which they feel that physical pain is their only release, their only option to deal with a stressful situation.
i know this, i have been through this.
please do not try to define anyone as ‘emo’ because of a condition.

    finally,
if you don’t like scene hair, don’t get on a site like this just to antagonize people.
what good does it do to piss people off?
    live and let live, people.
    they’re not hurting you,
they’re not forcing you to cut your hair like them,
    so why bother?

    dumbasses.

  50. kaos on July 11th, 2008 at 6:43 pm

people who are scene piss me off, im sorry but they do they all try so hard to look different yet they all look like carbon copies of teach other.

ur all just following a supid trend yet claim to be unique.

i mean cummon! dare to be different, sheesh

  51. emowannabee on July 11th, 2008 at 9:28 pm

Scene seems a lot like emo, but I read a comment that said that emos in general cut themselves. I don’t think this is the case. That seems like more of a hardcore emo thing. I would love to be emo, but my hair is curly, and doesn’t grow out right.

  52. Nia on July 13th, 2008 at 11:32 pm

Scene is very ridiculous. “scene” is made up by grabbing little things of other styles, and mixing it into one horrible label. Theres “Emo Scenesters” “Ghetto Scenesters” “Metal Scenesters” “Decora Scenesters”
anyone who is scene is a mistake to the earth. if you’re going to label yourself, do it right.

  53. emily. just emily. on July 14th, 2008 at 8:20 pm

    oh, geez.
the scene people; the emos; the preps; the punks; the wannabe gangsters; the goths.
ohhh, you all piss me off SO MUCH.
I like scene music, emo music, preppy music, punk music, rap, goth, techno, metal, whatever.
I like the scene style very much, it’s neat looking.
What I hate about ’scene’, is the mindset, “Oh, I’m scene. I take pictures in every angle yet they all look the same! I listen to whatevercore music! I dye my hair twenty different colors and tease it up with bottle after bottle of hairspray! I put on so much eyeliner and eyeshadow that I look like a hooker! So, therefore, I am more original and hardcore than you’ll ever be.”
I don’t like the scene mindset one bit.
I don’t like being put in stereotypes; We are human beings, not cans of soup, and we shouldn’t feel like we need to have a label to feel accepted in the society we live in.
    There.

  54. heh. on July 14th, 2008 at 8:32 pm
