Why is Scene style better than emo style?

Scene style is often considered to be the defining icon of the whole Scene scene, and is generally thought to be much more important than any defining music. Without the difference in Scene style it can be difficult to differentiate between an Emo boy or girl and a Scene boy or girl. Scene style is much more about color than the Emo style.

Whilst tight clothes, in the form of pants and t-shirt may be worn. There is much more color used on the tight t-shirts, the t-shirts will be much more fashionable and will also include cartoon characters and other logos. Do not be surprised if there is a great proliferation of Scene style in shops and magazines throughout the summer of 2008.

A shorter definition of scene could be:
    A colorful version of emo!

no one needs to worry aboutt your hair not being long enough all these peoplee have short hair so they can backcomb it and spike it and then wear extensions. its pretty obvious tbh,

Its kind of worrying that people have come to have aims in life to be labelled. :\ like; fair enough, but i think being scene is about being your own person, & like, not conforming to the ideas society has? so, dont think that being scene makes you a new person- it doesnt. still the same you under the wild hair, the bright clothes & the fantastic makeup. :) just a tip. x

  18. laurewn on June 3rd, 2008 at 2:16 pm

Haha, what is the point in all of a sudden becoming scene ¬_¬
It’s so sad. You can’t just turn scene! It’s all about the music matey. Not just the fashion!

  19. greg on June 5th, 2008 at 12:43 am

at least emos represent something, stupid scene style, just a load of wannabe crap.

    HAHAHAHAHA SCENE KIDS DIE PLZ.

  22. Hollywood on June 8th, 2008 at 12:42 am

ha ha wow. this site is pretty hilarious.

if i know one thing about being scene and where i come from…
is 1. you dont ask how to be scene.
    2. you dont all of a sudden change everything to look scene.
    3. and you dont just turn scene.

    in my home town..
if you just turn scene to look cool.
me and my crew will kick some ass.

it sucks because i have dressed like a scenester since i was 15.
    im 19 almost 20 now.
    and over the past year…
basically everyone sprouted out scene for the school year.
effin little 14 year old hoes.

it sucks when everyone hates you for what you look like.
then over a couple years it becomes a fashion statement.
that makes me want to kick the shit out of every new scene kid.

  23. miro mutilation on June 8th, 2008 at 3:30 pm

this is the most stupid thing i’ve ever heard.
    more likely would be:
emo is dead. the whole emo music and style is dead, it died in the mid-nineties after it had it’s great time. it at least died after one of those black dressed wannabe kids with dark make up cried “i am emo!”

scene style is just another stupid word for a new type of style that developed beneath today’s kids, taking parts from different scenes just as the hardcore, the indie, the electro, the pop, the skater and the metal scene.
it refers to no special kind of music but is represented by several famous myspace whores, who listen to that kind of music, that is called “emo” by people who haven’t any idea of what emo really was.

don’t be foolish and figure out what you like and what you dislike before you say “i want to be sceneeee!”

  24. Darling on June 8th, 2008 at 6:13 pm

Don’t you think you’re all taking this a tad too seriously?
If a bunch of goofy teenie-bopper 14 year olds want to thicken their eyeliner and fluff their hair, what’s the harm?

I’m proud to have been part of this fashion statement for years now, but I honestly think you guys are thinking too hard. Loosen up a bit; the kids who ‘want to be sceneeee’ will figure it out eventually.

We were all that way once.

  25. Hannah on June 9th, 2008 at 12:29 am

wow. i agree, it’s stupid that there is a website about being scene, especially because “scene” is all about expressing yourself and not conforming. i believe that you people really need to leave these poor kids alone. if they want to be “scene” let them. Don’t people let you be punk/emo/skater/prep/indie or whatever the hell you want to be? if thats how they express themselves, more power to them. and don’t worry, they’ll get enough shit about being a poser at their school. And eventually “scene” won’t be…well, scene. and it will die, and people will find something else to be. some people will stay “scene” and that’s their choice. don’t be assholes and make fun of them. they are who they are. let them live how they want to. (:

  26. Stephanie on June 9th, 2008 at 8:44 pm

Wow it sickens me how many friggin posers are on here
    it soo fucking sad
if any of you were to say “I want to be Scene!” around here
in my Neighborhood Guarantee that all of you would get your ass
kicked not to mention your stupid wannabe scene hair cuts and extensions ripped out, posers like you should all die

i cant wait to get my scene hair cut !!!
    i love the look .
but idk how to explain to my hairdresser how to do it ….
and scene is wayyy different from emo .
    scene style is colorful
and about living life to the fullest
and doing wat you want .
    emo however;;
    isnt .

The lip thing !! This site is cool 4 some sweet hair but
    EMO IS A LIFE STYLE!!!
THIS IS A WANNA BEE POSSER GROUP………=^.^=

  30. sensibility on June 10th, 2008 at 1:42 am

you are like, 14, right? your hair does NOT define who you are. your personality, how you treat others and your general social responsibilities define who you are. you can have razor-cut blonde hair with pink streaks and still be an ass. get over yourselves. this stuff won’t matter in 10 years, trust me.

i almost think that you kids do this so you can spot each other out of a crowd. so what? you’ll probably just gossip about what an ass the other person with razor-cut pink streaky hair looks like. guess what? YOU LOOK LIKE AN ASS TOO.

the whole point to this charade is do what you want, not because everyone else around you is doing it. music, clothes, hair, future career, anything. just do what you do. please. i’m tired of seeing your dumb websites dedicated to retarded hair and crappy music.

  31. patrick on June 10th, 2008 at 12:13 pm

heyy i guess you could label me as a scene kid. the big difference is that emo kids are sad and gloomy and they think that they have it really hard in life. where is a scene kid is happy about life. no worries. scene is no more than a look. no emotional stuff. i went from wearing hollister t-shirts and nikes to tight pant, black and blonde hair, and i dont go anywhere without my skeleton hoodie. i do it for the fashion and so does every other scene kid.

  32. Lili on June 10th, 2008 at 9:42 pm

See, I have one of those hair cuts that have shorter layers on top, then long underneath, but it’s not died, I don’t have extensions, and I defintley do not dress like a scene kid….. I’d say more victorian lolita : P

It really pisses me of off when people are like ” I want to be scene to look different than everyone” reality check. Everyone is scene right now. So by acting and dressing differently isn’t going to make you different, it’ll make you the same.

    End of rant. : )

  33. pjxgorexcore on June 11th, 2008 at 9:41 am

scene girls are way hotter than emo girls, i mean dont get me wrong, but scene girls have a certain….somthing.
i do not label myself and i hate if people do, i like different styles. like grindcore (not the gay shit), and emo. so i combine the 2. people are not posers, they just like what they like. thats life. so you people thinking your mighty calling people posers. look at yourself, and stop trying to be tough on the internet.

  35. :]oragzmic@nexopia.com on June 12th, 2008 at 12:28 am

Ok… i love this site and how people are getting so excited over a style and shit… And I think its great that we all want to be different! But honestly look at how many scene kids or emo kids there are these days! Now i ma not saying not to be or to be… that is completly up to you and honestly you have to be pretty pashionet about your style if you are willing to be so “scene” but if all of use became scene there would be no veriety and yes you can still be scene and be different… but at the same time you could take styles that you like and let them inspier you to have your oun style… EXAMPLE][ gothic+scene+punk= you!!!!!!][ just play around with it! and you shouldn’t try and be a hole new person! Thats what cossed “EMO” people to get such a bad rep, at the beagining “EMOS” were always so deprsed and sad looking and they looked like if you were to hug them they would puke all over you! And as all of us know “EMOS” suposively “cutt them selves!” ANd thats one thing that makes people hate them… for some silly reason but I have quite a few friends that are emos and all of them are as sweet as can be! So just be onpen minded and let people live there lives and make there own decishions! “NO MISTAKES MADE, JUST LESSONS LEARNED” ANd for all those people that keep calling everyone “posers” get a gripp no matter what you say to sombody your not going to stop them form doing what they want, and besides it just a style and you and me both know that it can change when the next year rolls around… have a good life yall!

  36. Tristan on June 12th, 2008 at 3:38 am

you guys are being so mean about it.

a teen likes to experement with new things. i rememebr when i was 11 and i was gothic, then preppy, then scene, etc.

yeah, i gotta agree, all of a sudden scene is the “newest” trend that everyone thinks is cool, but still.

  37. taters on June 14th, 2008 at 3:46 pm

ok so i’m not trying to put any labeling on me but latley ppl
say i’m trying to be all emo
and wat not when both me nor them know the defintion
and i dont even have any emo haircut nor scene just my regular hair
the only reason for them calling me emo
is cause since i have been wearing my chucks with skinny jeans sometimes. or i wear like three different bracelets that i make on my own damn wrist. oh yea and they say y do i listen to rock music when they know i have been listening to it all my god damn life. one of my friends said why do i dress this way that i did not used to dress this way and yea true back then i did not know how to dress i had no sense of style but now i kinda just do wat ever and it looks pretty darn awesome it kinda leans towards ” i’m a big fanatic of skinny jeans in wat ever color and
wat ever kinda color shirt i like bright colors but that does not make me a scene kid from wat i have heard around my school
and i like to cut my own hair and recently i have fallen in love with the color red so i was thinking color my whole hair red with black kinda at the bottom its kinda hard to explain but i do like the choppy layered look but i dont want that many like the pics above even though i think they are pretty…any who long ass story right but shit one of my friends piss me off cause she thinks that i’m trying to be like her she says when she used to dress with fish nets and wat not its like damn i’m not trying to be u ok so leave me the god damn alone i mean wat do u guys think

  38. Tilyy on June 16th, 2008 at 5:54 pm

tbh i think scenes pretty cool but yu’ve gotta have the right attutude theres no point changing everything if your gunah stick out you’ll just seem likea prick.
im not a scene but a lot of my friends are ..
some of them carry it off well but the rest .. :S
so tbh dont try it if your not already in with the scene crowd.

    toodles ..

    hey miro mutilation u r emo ??
because u say “people haven’t any idea of what emo really was”
and u ? u have any idea of emo ??
plz don’t comment if u really not emo !
    iam a scene girl….really.
There are so many personality of scene i am funny scene girl
my hairstyle is “choppy” with brown and pink colors
    scene style is beautiful remember…..
i think this is a beautiful life i have….scene life
scene style! But i hate emo because it’s too sad and black….

  40. Bryan on June 19th, 2008 at 1:33 am

i think emo is sorta fading out cuz these days u dont find alot of emo kids but more scene kids. I noe pop culture portrays emos as depressed suicidal and cut themselves and yes ive seen some ppl’s sccars on their arms and legs but wat really annoys me is the confusion of scenes and emos. Scenes are cooler and fun and emos are all “I hate life i should kill myself”. Scenes say”Hai watss upp??” and the girls hug u and the guys are awesome so really secenes are better than emos

  41. ?!?! on June 21st, 2008 at 12:56 am

Why the fuck won’t you all shut the fuck up, get on with your fucking lives. Stop obsessing over other people. Fucking annoying bitches. Grow the fuck up.

  42. peter-pan on June 22nd, 2008 at 12:32 am

i think that it is gay how people are all like i want to be scene. where what you want to wear, all because you wear tight jeans, have gauges, a coon tail or choppy hair, wear band tee shirts, talk “gangster” or spell things differently, go to local shows, wear converse or nikes, wear beanies, dye or straiton hair, etc means that you like or like to do that stuff it doesnt that you are scene. i get called scene about five times everyday and its annoying scene is like a type of clothing and that word escaladed into different things.
dont say you want to be scene because you just being judgemental, say you want to have a style that is scene.

thanks for reading and im not trying to be mean but seriously.

  45. nearly [nick] on June 28th, 2008 at 1:07 am

well… dont define yourself as ’scene’ if you define yourself as scene you will be called a poser. fer sure and theres no going back once you went down that road. all my friends are scene and my best friend defined herself as scene and she got terrorized for being a ‘poser’. scene doesnt have specific style. its what ever you want basically if your gonna be it grab a razor blade and cut your hair and make teased super choppy layers in it and dye it black and put a bunch of neon colors in it. then go to a thrift store and 5h0p!!! its basically an individual thing that makes you stand out from the crowd. but my advice is quit labeling yourself its not cool. you should just be you.

  46. Tommy on June 28th, 2008 at 4:01 pm

Yes, the haircuts are nice, we all figured that out. But don’t you think life is much to short to be trying to conform to a trend all the time? Why not just be who you are, not who you wish you could be? Enjoy yourself!

emo is not dead if anything its comming back fast. Because of all of the bad things happening in the world. At the end of the 90s not much bad things happend but then there was 9-11 and alot of ppl went off to war and the world is just a mess. So if you say emo is dead you should open your eyes because its every where and growing fast. XD

I like the scene look, and that someone said it is ‘colorful emo’ Even though the hair look is apparently “in” this year, do scene kids change year to year, just to fit the trends? I would like that question awnsered. Also…how exactly would i tell my hair stylest that i want this cut, people like to be as detailed as possible these days!

  53. a person on July 1st, 2008 at 12:38 am

This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen.
How insecure do you have to be about yourself to WANT to be scene.
Do you even realize in that doing it to look different from everyone else, you actually end up looking like everyone else who also has that haircut?
Getting a haircut and buying certain clothes doesn’t buy you acceptance OR a personality.

Get over yourselves and Grow up.

  54. Myu on July 3rd, 2008 at 1:30 pm

I really dont get why all ppl put some ppl in different styles, like classify…
You are only you, always! You cant change who you are, and if you try to “be a” style, then you are wannabee, cus then you try to be something, just dress how you feel like
    and dont classyfy ppl!

  55. Zoe on July 3rd, 2008 at 2:02 pm

Guys, it takes more than hair and clothes to be scene. You gotta have the attitude! Yaah I’m getting a “scene” hair cut too! It looks so different, and I need a change of style B-] heheheh I’m the only “scene” person at my school, all the others are either emo, gangster or nerd. It took me about 5 months to turn “scene” but please, do NOT call me scene or I’ll kick your ass. The end. Have a nice day :)

first of all i love scene style. :3 if ppl wanna take it far as a way of life or just have it be a fashion statement watev.

to get that haircut thats really common for scensterz is a short choppy layery haircut. w/e color. then the most important thing in my opinion is HAIR EXTENSIONS. u dont have to get it if u dont feel like u need to but i love it. u can switch from short to long whenever(plus it makes me look older xD) and its always straight. which is hard to get where i live.

but to the ppl who are all like “FUCK WANNABES” get over it. seriously. why are u on this page if ur just gonna post hateful comments? grow up.

you know it’s okay to have the “hair” and not be “scene”
mine is like so, but i’m definitely not under the influence of scene.
i simply took that “hair style” and made it my own, you can say.

    haha XD

  67. shade on July 10th, 2008 at 2:42 am

    hahahaha
all of you people are ridiculous
you are arguing over a style
    wowsers!
i don’t have anything against emo and scene and im not gonna fight about it…lol
what happened to the good ol’ days when all that mattered was personallity
now its how you present yourself and everyone forgets the rest

  68. Ty on July 10th, 2008 at 7:51 pm

I think this is close to the new Glam/sleaze rock genre. I think it will kind of blend with this and a new rock era will be reborn. Bands such as Crashdiet and Snake of Eden look like this along with veins of Jenna and Peep show etc…..

  69. kristine on July 10th, 2008 at 9:48 pm

I really dont think im scene…i just like to dress up. people call me emo or something like that. im NOT. im just an artist who really admires the way they express themselves. and i love to see the look on peoples faces when they see me when im all my glory. its fun. ;] i hate it when ppl give me a label, because im ME. so if your gonna call me a poser, then fuck off. i really dont give a shit about what you think of me. ive been through allot of shit, not as much as some, but more than my friends. im the only one like me, and i really hate it when they are all like “y do you dress like a emo” or ask me if i cut myself. it also helps me with friends. if they are a bitch to me cause of what i wear, then idc what they think about me. and its fun to see their faces. so just back the fuck off the “scene” style. its just a way for ppl to express themselves. just because its different from the “accepted” style of the world, it doesnt mean we have to conform, cause thts basically at ur saying. just cause i wanna cut my hair tht way, or wear similar clothes, doesnt mean im “conforming”. im just finding myself and expressing it through clothes. so shut the fuck up about it

WOW! i just got mii hair done too!!!!!!!!!!! wtf make you think that n e one cares f i got mii hair done?! no one!!!!!!!!!! so shut the fuck up and stop talking shit and the scanks, stop being bitches about becoming scene. everyone has a right to feel good about themselves and love the way they look, but when it gets to the extent of being overobsessed and taking way too many self pics. that might be a good time for a reality check. i dont paricularly label myslef and do indeed hate it if i am. i just like the look of some things, and then try and dress it up how i like. like if you knew me your first impression would be thinking im emo, but im not. i like to be different and find a style i like and that suits me. i think that fashion and style is such a BIG thing in a teenagers life. i think that people should stop being such hard arses and give the lil preppy kids a break. they can dress how they like. i prewsonally dress how i feel. and really i dont give a shit what people think of me. as long as you feel good about yourself is the answer to this. just try things and see if it suits you. i think that the lil preppy kids will slowly understand that they wear what they like, and what they feel good in, and that they love themselves for who they are. this teen stuff is all a learning experience. and hopefully by the end we will find out who we really are. all this style stuff is all about being unique and individual. but i find that fashion is more of trends and cliques if you know what i mean. just stay true to yourself and you will live a great life.

p.s. emo and scene is a pile of shit and always will be.

    xo.

  72. Lind-z on July 12th, 2008 at 5:48 pm

i dont believe in labels… but if you wanna be scene be scene.. i have scene hair and pretty much always wear neon makeup! do what you like and what you want to and stop worrying the whole time about ” posers” because youre not gonna have your funnn that way yo :)
i wear every type of clothes and whatever and i just roll my eyes and flip tha bird to whoever laughs
    have a great dayy ! ;)

  73. Inilit on July 13th, 2008 at 4:48 am

The haircuts are nice.. i want a more natural one similar to one(but i am not scene or emo or any of those stereotypes) of them but those people who r like ‘im going to change all my clothes and my hair and no ones going to recognise me bla bla’, get a life? i think these were created to be like original and if you change everything about yourself cos u want to be a ’scene girl’ you aren’t being original at all.

  74. Micaela on July 13th, 2008 at 9:01 pm

Emo people are NOT fags, there is pretty much NO difference between scene and emo, except scene ppl put extensions in their hair WOW…:( big whoop, and emo ppl wear more black, I’m emo, so fuck all u ppl who think tht we’re fags, btw I’m a girl lolz…and emo boyz are hotter than scene boyz!!!

  77. Micky on July 13th, 2008 at 9:19 pm

  78. xhellokittyluvvx on July 14th, 2008 at 8:30 pm

mann o mann…..whoever says “i want to be scene!”…. wow..just wow. ive had a scene hair cut for like…2 years or something n i didnt really consider it to be scene but whatevs. if u get ur hair cut like one of these n put on some bright clothes n call ur self scene.. ima come n kick ur booty cuz thats just pathetic times 100 /:

  79. moniGORE on July 15th, 2008 at 2:27 am

    Weelll
    actually scene means color

scene kids are random and happy
emo kids can be happy too, but they are alwayz talking about
    saddness and depression and stuff

scene kids are about fashion, color, rock and living life as
    if its the last one
Emo do the same but in a negative way!

PPl are alwayz saying that scene and emo is the same shit
    but it doesnt

    EMO
    SCENE
    =
    BIIG DIFERENCE

i dont have any problem about saying that im a scene kid
    and really… im not emo!

    <3

Oh my God what is wrong with all u people. I am a REAL scene girl, i’m proud of it and i’ve been one all my life. You cannot, repeat *CANNOT*, become scene. do u honestly think that if you wear bright colours and style your hair differently, and stare at a few scene people on the street that you’re gonna become one? I’m tryin to help you here. Get a life guys. Be what u wanna be. Because you’re not gonna BE scene!!!! You have 2 be born with it!!!! (just like me :-)) xxx from mav xxx

    To All Of You’s Saying
‘I’m A Scene And I’m Going To Kick Your ASS If You Pose!’
    News Flash..
People Who SAY Their Scene, Aren’t. They Belong In The ‘Poser’ Subculture.
And Also, People On Here Giving Their Life Stories On How When They Got Their Hair Cut With Bangs And Streaks Everybody Called Them EMO Etc, Who Cares?
They Want To Call You Emo? Let Them. You Know You Aren’t.
    Scene Is INDIVIDUALITY.
    And COLOUR.
    And HAPPINESS.
Those People I Mentioned Before Who Go On About How Their Going To Kick Peoples Asses Are OBVIOUSLY Missing One Of The Main Points About Being ‘Scene’ In The First Place.
    Have Fun With Your Style.
    That’s The Whole Point.!

no really i ain’t no emo, but i do really know what emo was: a music style in the ending 80ies, beginning 90ies and nothing more. this whole discussion is just stupid.

and i, i am nothing but a person with a character. get yourself a thing like that and stop labelling yourself to anything you dn’t know shit about.
